Hey, I'm Scott.

Navy veteran, yoga instructor, author, husband, dad, and the guy your mom would describe as "a character." I help people stay strong, mobile, and laughing all the way to a ripe old age. My yoga name is "Spirit," which you'll see on my books.

My Story

At nineteen, while serving in the United States Navy, I survived a severe burn injury that changed the course of my life. The physical recovery was long. The rest of it was longer. In the years that followed I fought battles most people couldn't see: addiction, body image, and my own mental health. I lost friendships. I lost my footing more times than I can count.

What I found, eventually and unexpectedly, was yoga. Along with faith and a daily gratitude practice, it gave me a way back into my own body, one breath at a time. It rebuilt my strength, but more than that, it rebuilt my relationship with myself. I came out the other side knowing exactly what I wanted to do with the rest of my life: help other people reclaim their strength, their confidence, and their joy in moving.

That's what I've been doing ever since, on the mat, in the gym, on the page, and on stages where I get to tell this story out loud. I wrote Yoga Flow Through the Alphabet to share the tools that carried me through, and Wild Within to pass a little of that spirit on to kids.

If I could find my way back, I promise there's a way forward for you, too.

What I believe

Off the clock

I've never quite left the 80s: the rock is loud, the softball is competitive, and the video games are retro. I'm a devoted family man, a dog person, a cat person, and a firm believer that hot dogs are a food group. You'll find me outdoors in all four Minnesota seasons, usually moving, occasionally snowshoeing badly on purpose.

From the bookshelf

Say hello.

Questions about the books, yoga, or tell me about your favorite 80s band? I'd love to hear from you.
